At St Michael & All Angels Stonebridge, we are living to make a difference by being a Christian heart at the centre of the community. Everyone is welcome.

On Sundays we worship together at a Parish Eucharist at 10am in the church, and at 1:30pm there is a teleconference Service of the Word, “Church on the Phone” for those who dial in remotely.

Autumn at St Michael’s. For this week’s news, see our pewsheet “The Messenger” here in Word or PDF format. Our regular timetable of services is: the main Parish Eucharist on Sundays at 10:00am in church, the telephone service at 1:30 on Sunday afternoons, Morning Prayer on a Zoom call at 09:15 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and the Saturday Holy Communion service in church at 4:30 pm.

Our thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who helped us celebrate our church’s dedication festival, the Feast Day of Saint Michael and All Angels, or Michaelmas, on Sunday 28th September. We learned lots more about angels by examining the archangels storied in our stained glass windows. Afterwards we ate together, thanks to our helpful cooks, including wings and angel cake!

Our next special services will be in November, commemorating All Saints, All Souls and also the war dead on Remembrance Sunday.

All Saints Day is 1st November, and traditionally we remember not only “official” saints whose lives and faith have inspired us, but also those less famous but important in our own journeys. All of us are called to follow Jesus more closely and in this sense we are all aspiring “saints”. At our church we will hold a special service on Sunday 2nd November to commemorate this, beginning by singing as we process around some of the streets of our parish. This year the tradition of All Souls on 2nd November, when we remember those we love but see no more and pray for all those in mourning, will be incorporated into our prayer at the Sunday service.

There will be no Saturday service on 1st November as we shall be attending a service of Confirmation at St Paul’s Cathedral where many people, including from our congregation, are making a further commitment to faith.

On recent Sundays we have been reading through Paul’s 2nd letter to Timothy. Timothy was brought up in the faith by his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice, and then mentored by Paul. (We have a depiction of the family in a stained glass window:

Regular Services:

Our Saturday Service is held at 4:30pm. We have a time of Praise and Worship followed by a service of Holy Communion. You might find this useful if your work patterns or activities make it difficult to attend our main Parish Eucharist on Sunday mornings. We use the same Bible readings as the main Sunday service. Perhaps you would like to sing worship songs together, or you like a smaller and less formal service (which is held in our beautiful Lady Chapel). Everyone is welcome!

Morning Prayer is held at 9:15 am on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. At the moment we are online only, so if you are interested please ask for the Zoom link. We follow a simple version of the Church of England service including a psalm and two Bible readings every day, and the service takes around 25-30 minutes.

Hall bookings

We’re allowed to meet again! Have you been waiting to celebrate something or start a new class or activity?

We have a hall large enough for 120 guests available to hire on a casual basis at weekends including Saturdays until 10pm or some weekday evenings. We are also open to community groups, classes and courses using the space more regularly. The halls may be viewed by appointment on Sundays and sometimes Saturdays, and there is a hall booking phone line (07704 694432) taking calls on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Wishing you every blessing
