At St Michael & All Angels Stonebridge, we are living to make a difference by being a Christian heart at the centre of the community. Everyone is welcome.

On Sundays we worship together at a Parish Eucharist at 10am in the church, and at 1:30pm there is a teleconference Service of the Word, “Church on the Phone” for those who dial in remotely.

For this week’s news, see our pewsheet “The Messenger” here in Word or PDF format.

Holy Week and Easter Services:

For a reminder of our services throughout Holy Week and Easter, please download our special flyer (in either Word or PDF format).

Maundy Thursday: We shall have a service on the evening of Maundy Thursday, 17th April, at 7pm. There will be a Eucharist with themed Bible readings. After the main service we shall "strip the altar", taking down all remaining decorations and equipment, and recite Psalm 22. Then we proceed to the Lady Chapel, which will be lit with candles, for a time of silent prayer in front of the Altar of Repose.

Good Friday: On Good Friday we plan to hold Three Hours Devotions in the church, and also partly online and via phone. There will be three one-hour services from 12:00 midday to 1:00, 1:00 to 2:00 and 2:00 to 3:00, with a brief gap between services to allow people to come and go. The format is as follows:
12:00 midday: a Service of the Word with Bible readings from Luke's Gospel account of the Passion, and reflections. This service will include hymn singing. The Service will also be livestreamed on Zoom for audio and video and can be dialled in via the Church on the Phone line for audio only.
1:00 pm: Stations of the Cross. We process around the church visiting all the "stations" marking events in Jesus' journey to the cross and praying at each one. This will also be livestreamed on Zoom.
2:00 pm: Service of Meditations and Reflections: in addition to our Bible readings of the Passion we shall be reflecting on aspects of Jesus' story and writings and preaching about the events of Easter. This will be a quiet and static service - also available on Zoom and Church on the Phone.
2:00 pm: Activities for children on the Theme of Good Friday. There will be a craft table with guidance on making cards and craft items to celebrate Easter. (All three of our services today will be suitable for children and we shall do our best to accommodate people of all ages throughout).
There will be tea, coffee and soft drinks available and hot cross buns will be served at the beginning of the 2 pm service in church.

Early morning service Easter Sunday: On Easter Sunday our first service will begin at 06:30 with an Easter Liturgy.

We beginning in the churchyard by lighting the New Fire for Easter and our new Paschal Candle which will burn at church services throughout the coming year. We go indoors and light candles as we hear the Bible story of salvation. As we reach the time of Jesus the mood turns to greater celebration and we greet each other with God's peace and admire the flowers decorating the church, which has been bare for Lent. We also bless water to renew our baptismal vows and pray for the whole church. (After this, please stay for our Parish Breakfast.)

MAIN EASTER SUNDAY SERVICE PARISH EUCHARIST AT 10:00 AM Our usual format of hymn singing, four Bible readings, sermon, prayer and sharing Holy Communion together, at the 10 o’clock Sunday service on 20th April. (Followed by refreshments and celebrations).

Regular Services:

Our Saturday Service is held at 4:30pm. We have a time of Praise and Worship followed by a service of Holy Communion. You might find this useful if your work patterns or activities make it difficult to attend our main Parish Eucharist on Sunday mornings. We use the same Bible readings as the main Sunday service. Perhaps you would like to sing worship songs together, or you like a smaller and less formal service (which is held in our beautiful Lady Chapel). Everyone is welcome!

Morning Prayer is held at 9:15 am on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. At the moment we are online only, so if you are interested please ask for the Zoom link. We follow a simple version of the Church of England service including a psalm and two Bible readings every day, and the service takes around 25-30 minutes.
